June trip to Glacier ... guidance on lodging

Hi ... We are flying in from Orlando to Spokane on June 8. The first 6 nights we will be staying at the Best Western Rocky Mountain Lodge in Whitefish. We are then looking for lodging inside the park for June 14 and 15. We will then be heading back to Spokane and spending our final night there on June 16. My wife saw the pictures of the Many Glacier Hotel and would love to stay there on June 14 and 15. The only room available that would accommodate us (2 adults, 2 kids under 7) is the ';Value'; room, but this room has no view. Should we jump on this room and be done with it or does anyone else have any other lodging recommendations for a room with a view and that is close to trails and other things that can be done close to the hotel?

Any other recommendations on our trip would be greatly appreciated! We know we are definitely on the early side in terms of the GTTS road, but hope enough of it will be open to not disappoint. We are the type that likes beating the ';rush of the season'; and would lean towards being chilly versus warm (born and raised in Orlando!).

Finally, if we don%26#39;t might taking a little longer to get in from Spokane to Whitefish (our plane lands around 2:30ish) what would be the best journey from Spokane and how much travel time would it add?

Many thanks in advance for the recommendations.

I did some poking around and located availability at Village Inn at Apgar. Appears to have a real nice view. Any comments are appreciated!

I think the view from Apgar would be nice, too, but if you%26#39;re already spending most of your time in Whitefish, I would definitely recommend going somewhere else. I would choose a location on the east side of the park so that you will have more time to enjoy Many Glacier, St. Mary, Two Medicine, etc. The Many Glacier Hotel is in an ideal location, and I%26#39;d take it even without a view. I cannot comment on what the value rooms are like, though, as I%26#39;ve never stayed there. If Swiftcurrent Motor Inn or Rising Sun Motor Inn have availabilities, those would be great, too. I would also think that Johnson%26#39;s of St. Mary would have a nice view. Sorry, I cannot help you with your route from Spokane, as I have never driven a route in that area before.

Sean

You can drive from Spokane on I-90 to either 138 to 28 to 93 or go on to the 93 exit. Both routes are fairly scenic after leaving the interstate as they go around Flathead Lake. You can also follow 2 which will take you thru northern Idaho and is scenic. Either way will be 5 or so hours. Are you staying in Whitefish because the hotels have more amenities (TV, pool) for the kids? I would consider taking one night away from Whitefish and staying at Village Inn for the views of sunrise, sunset. The rooms are very dated but clean. I would grab any room available at Many Glacier, you can use the lobby for views. Also Swiftcurrent might work for you. That is a scenic area and lots of hikes, from easy to difficult and also boat rides. I think to be in that area is worth any room you can get. And at the Rocky Mountain Best Western, make sure you are not in an annex room.

Awesome .. thanks Sean!

Very valid point that I overlooked was the close proximity of Whitefish and Apgar. I called and just booked a room at Many Glacier Hotel. It%26#39;s very interesting in that I got a room that was $168 which is the price of a Lakeside (which are 2 twin bed rooms), but what we are staying in has a double bed and 2 twin beds. She did say the room had a ';limited view'; of either mountains and/or lake. All in all, we are very happy and thanks again!

I%26#39;m glad you went with that...I think you will be very happy there, and it sounds like a fairly good deal too with the double and two twins. As hikes mentioned, you can definitely use the lobby for views...or just walk on the lakeshore. You%26#39;ll enjoy your time there, there is no doubt about that. Perhaps you can take a late afternoon canoe ride!
