Campgrounds and Fill Times

We%26#39;re arriving at Glacier on July 4th. Staying at a motel in Kalispell the night before. Our plan is to head to 2 Medicine campground fairly early 4th of July morning (via the road running south of the park). I%26#39;ve check the fill times on the NPS website 鈥ps.gov/applications/鈥gstatus.cfm And they make me optimistic that we%26#39;ll be okay. But then I also read the forum where people say how busy 4th of July weekend is.

Does anyone have any past experiences that indicate if the NPS fill times are accurate?

If it really will be difficult to secure a spot that day? Better off reserving a site at St Mary?

Or do you think we would be okay to not reserve at St Mary, and if we arrive at 2 medicine late morning, finds its full...that we could just drive up to St Mary and there would be availability?

Is there an ideal time of day to secure a campsite (ie...will getting there too early be more difficult)? Or is timing just random?

Campgrounds and Fill Times

I have found in the past that 4th of July has been slow to fill campgrounds. Certainly, weather has an impact and who knows what that will be. 2-med is not a large campground but it is also a bit more of a drive so you could easily score there. St. Mary campground is a bit of a dive, if possible go for Rising Sun.

Do you feel lucky.....???

Campgrounds and Fill Times

k2kelley...thanks for the feedback. Rising Sun is on my radar as a potential campsite later on in the trip. I%26#39;ll definitly consider it for this first night. From the pics I%26#39;ve seen of St Mary...doesn%26#39;t look as majestic as some of the other areas in Glacier.
