Horseback Riding & Float/Tubing Recommendations

Thanks to multiple ';travelogue-like'; emails from Dixie Pools, my husband, 2 children and I are vacationing in Montana/Wyoming this summer.

We will be based in accommodations near the West Yellowstone entrance and among other things, want to go horseback riding and floating/tubing. We are not whitewater rafters and consequently, want something similar to the sedate tubing we do on the Shenendoah River in Harper%26#39;s Ferry, WV each summer.

Any suggestions for riding and floating in or around West Yellowstone will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance and thanks again Dixie Pools!

Gayle

We rode at the 320 Guest Ranch north of West Yellowstone. The kids enjoyed it and the horses did not do much of the usual dude ranch horse tricks (puffing up, dragging feet on the way out, gallop/trotting all the way back, scratching rider off on tree, always fighting for a grassy snack,...) We%26#39;d do it again, and would consider staying there or eating there. They have a lot of horses so it is a main focus for the ranch.

There are also good whitewater guides in the Big Sky area. I%26#39;m sure they have less exciting rides. (Stay out of the Bear Trap Canyon! No worries, they wouldn%26#39;t take you there, anyway -- wrong road/river). The rivers aren%26#39;t big wide flat floating streams, so you%26#39;ll probably be in a boat not an innertube.

There%26#39;s a bridge just north of the resort that my kids had a great time just jumping off of. I think it was Dudley Creek Road.

Hi Gayle,

You are most certainly welcome, however I%26#39;m not a summer park visitor, so I can not help you with riding and tubing questions, sorry. Try posting your question on the Wyoming or the Yellowstone forum. It will probably get more attention.

Hi Gayle,

If you are staying near the West Entrance, Parade Rest Guest Ranch offers various trail rides into the Gallatin National Forest.

Geyser Whitewater Expeditions located about 30-45 minutes north offers scenic family rafting trips as well.

If you%26#39;d like to try your hand with a sea kayak, there are a few guide services as well that offer scenic tours around Yellowstone Lake inside the Park or Hebgen/Quake Lake outside the Park.

Have fun with your trip!
