Likelihood of snow before Labor Day?

We are thinking of taking our first ever trip to Yellowstone in the first week of September.

I know no one can predict the weather but how cold is it in the daytime generally?

You may check www.wunderground.com/US/region/US and hit History data. We found first week september a great time to go, stayed several days, had some little snow and next day it was 70F. As you said, you can%26#39;t predict weather.

Likelihood of snow before Labor Day?

We%26#39;ve been snowed on in Yellowstone in August, so no telling what you%26#39;ll get weather-wise. We%26#39;ve visited twice now at the end of September, and tho it had snowed a few days before we went thru, the daytime temperature was still very pleasant, and we LOVED seeing the fresh snow on all the mountaintops! Toward the end of Sept, the aspens get more golden, but if they%26#39;ve had some good cold snaps, you may enjoy some early fall colors. Pack T-shirts, sweatshirts or flannels %26amp; light-med jackets and dress in layers. I think you%26#39;ve picked a great time to go.

The NOAA Center for Environmental Prediction outlook for August/September this year is for normal temps and precip. Actually Yellowstone would be on the edge of an area of bloew normal for the whole NW but nea to an above normal area over Nebraska. Take this with a grain of salt since your coin is probably as good as theirs...but at least it is not indicating strong chances of wet/cold. As they say inthat business, ';Climate%26#39;s what you expect but weather is what you get.';

No matter what the temp it is the start of a period of transition of seasons and that is always marked by wind...so prepare for chances of fairly windy, either warm or cool.
