June or July

Was hoping to get to Glacier in early june but it now looks like the 3rd week of July. What is your opinion? Is June that much better or should I not worry about it and just go in July? There%26#39;s a slight chance I could make it June but I%26#39;m wondering if it%26#39;s worth the effort. Thanks for any and all opinions.

June or July

I would definitely keep it for the 3rd week of July. You would be missing a lot by visiting in early June. Going to the Sun Road, the only road that cuts across the park, will definitely not be open in early June (still plowing snow), but it will be by the 3rd week of July. There are a lot of beautiful trails that would not be possible to hike in early June as well due to snow. Temperatures in July should still be moderate and you should have pretty much any hiking options open...plus all park roads will be open by then as well. The road doesn%26#39;t usually open until the end of June/beginning of July.

June or July

oh...and if you are an avid hiker (which I think you may be judging by your username) then the 3rd week of July is most certainly preferrable

If you are wanting to stay in park, July is one of the busiest times, so try to get your reservations as soon as possible. As Sean stated, in early June you would run into a lot of snow that would have an impact on hiking and the road across the park.

if you are camping, reservations are not necessary. You should be able to access virtually anywhere in the park though a couple of passes may have some snow on the north faces%26gt; Wild flowers should be great in a number of places and if this is an on-cycle year, the bear grass will be in bloom.

What kind of hikes are you seeking? Are you a photographer, seeking animals, solitude or high views??

It will be me and my 7 year old son. My son is used to hiking so anything up to around 10 miles we are good, slow, but good. I%26#39;m also a photographer so any tips would be great. Thanks.
