Glacier National Park in early May

Hi everybody,

My husband and I are considering going to GNP on May 14th and 15th. I understand that this is really early in the season to go so I wanted some advice on whether it was worth the drive we%26#39;d be making to get there. What are your thoughts?

Glacier National Park in early May

You will not be able to drive across the park as the road will still be closed. You should be able to drive to Avalanche on the west and possibly to Jackson Glacier Overlook on the east, if the weather is good and allows melting. If not, you will be able to get to Rising Sun. The road to Many Glacier should also be open. All lodging will be closed and trails in the higher elevations will be snow covered. You will see some nice scenery but not be able to do much hiking.

How long is that drive? Tough to comment otherwise. In most cases, I%26#39;d say no. Drive to the Tetons or Yellowstone instead

Thank you for your responses. We are doing a road trip from Southern California to Arches National Park, Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone. The drive to Glacier National Park is doable for us but the drive back would be a killer cause we would have to be back to LA in 2 days of driving. I am so torn as to what to do because my husband has always wanted to go to Glacier but our vacation is so early in the season.

You%26#39;ll have to decide but you won%26#39;t really see Glacier that early. If you can plan for early - mid July 2010, you%26#39;ll have a nicer trip.

If you%26#39;ve got to do it. call it an adventure and go see what you can see. It would still be fun, just a long drive
